Curious about learning a skill that blends art, mindfulness, and aesthetics? Our Chinese calligraphy class is perfect for you, even if you don't know a word of Chinese! This is a unique opportunity to relax, focus on the present moment, and tap into your artistic side.
Over the course of three 2-hour sessions, you'll dive into the graceful strokes and techniques of Chinese calligraphy, guided by our very own Yan Mak. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have crafted your own festive calligraphy couplets (揮春) to take home, frame, and use as unique decorations! Join us and experience the elegance and serenity of calligraphy in a fun, stress-free environment!
The course will take place at Makers’ House Hastings on Sundays, 11am-1pm, on 18th & 25th January and 1st February 2026.

‘Hi, I’m Yan Mak, and I’m excited to share my passion for Chinese calligraphy with you! I’ve spent years working in art and style direction in Hong Kong, where I contributed to various creative projects such as album covers and music videos. These experiences have allowed me to explore different artistic mediums, but I’ve always been especially drawn to the elegance and discipline of Chinese calligraphy.
For me, calligraphy is more than just writing—it’s an art form that blends creativity, mindfulness, and tradition. I look forward to guiding you through this beautiful practice and helping you discover the joy of creating art through the graceful strokes of the brush!’
